Welcome

The Villars Symposium will take place on 14–17 June at the Villars Palace Hotel, bringing together over 150 Villars Fellows alongside the Institute’s partners, leading experts and innovators. The aim of the Symposium is to initiate the Fellows’ lifelong journey as systems leaders through interdisciplinary learning, intergenerational collaboration and exposure to real-world challenges.

02 The 8th Villars Institute Distinguished Lecture

Professor Saleem H. Ali is Chair of the Department of Geography and Spatial Sciences at the University of Delaware and a globally recognized scholar in environmental planning, sustainability, and conflict resolution. He also serves as Lead for Critical Metals at the United Nations University and as Honorary Professor at the Sustainable Minerals Institute in Australia. Dr. Ali has authored numerous influential publications on environmental policy, mining, energy transitions, and planetary stewardship, including his recent book Earthly Order: How Natural Laws Define Human Life.

Professor Saleem H. Ali will give the 8th Villars Institute Distinguished Lecture to explore how natural and social systems science can inform responses to planetary crises, and how understanding the underlying patterns of “earthly order” can help shape a more sustainable and socially functional future.

04 Villars Institute Welcome Dinner

This meal is prepared based on the recommendations of the EAT-Lancet Commission’s Planetary Health Diet, which provides scientific guidelines to ranges of different food groups that together constitute an optimal diet for human health and environmental sustainability.

Tables will be hosted by Members of the Villars Youth Council and Villars Mentors.
